During Hemmelig Tempo's annual Christmas party Professor Waffel, who had arrived by reindeer one hour delayed, produced a peculiar-looking object from his luggage: a motorized spiral designer used to automatically draw intricate geometrical designs on paper. A research question was quickly formulated: Is it possible to transform a spiral designer into a sequencer? Not resisting the strong pull towards the laboratory, the researchers quickly changed into their laboratory coats and produced
the following experiment. Three optical midi controllers were placed in a star-shaped position around the motorized spiral designer, upon which various objects, including two scissors, two pens and a metal drill and a wind-up robot, were placed. The purpose of this arrangement was to allow the revolving objects to
cross the optical light at different points along its' route, triggering a midi-controlled synthesizer or sampler. The spiral designer included three different revolving mechanisms, making the spiral function highly aleatory, and upon realizing this fact, Professor Waffel promptly, and perhaps prematurely, declared that a perpetuum mobile had been created. After some time, Looping Louie insisted upon participating in the experiment, repeatedly falling off the spiral designer like a drunken Cowboy on a bull and consequently ending the experiment.
