What To Do To Avoid Losing Your Luggage by Jim Brown

It can be such a distressing experience to lose your luggage during your vacation when all you had wanted to do was to relax and unwind. That feeling of waiting for your luggage to roll out of the baggage conveyor after everybody has left with their very own is such tension as you begin to panic. Plus, you have the problem of what clothes to wear when all of your outfits are all in that one luggage. What will you wear to the business meeting or where can you find a gown in time for the wedding that afternoon when your luggage still hasn't shown up. Here are some helpful tips for you to avoid losing your luggage and giving you any undue stress.

Ensure that you have carried on your carry-on luggage essentials like important medications, necessary toiletries that you will need and at least one change outfit. Also, you may want to consider purchasing travel insurance to cover for any lost luggage. When you book for your travel ticket, as much as possible avoid having tight connections. If you have to run to your next gate to be able to get on the flight, your luggage will need to as well. Also, the lesser the number of connections the lesser are your chances of missing a flight and the chances of your luggage getting lost or going astray.

Make your luggage stand out among the other luggages. It would be great if it was in vivid and bold colors or with bold patterns. You could even add something unique to your luggage instead. This will avoid other people from picking it up at the airport from the baggage carousel thinking it was theirs most especially when it looks exactly the same. You can dress up your luggage with stickers. You could tie a set of ribbons or a scarf on the handle for instance (but this has the risk of getting caught in luggage handling equipments). You can do anything as long as it will enable you to notice immediately that the luggage is yours.

If your luggage is lost, immediately inform an airport personnel and he or she will direct you to the right person (usually from the airline you boarded) who handles such situations. Besides, there is not much that they could do until the plane or flight arrives. If possible try to be calm, fill out the necessary forms and proceed to your hotel or wherever it is your supposed to go. Most lost luggage will be recovered within the following 24 hours.
